Confessions of a Wedding Paparazzi.

For those who know me personally, the last thing thing you will hear me talk about is how to behave in public. So why have I decided to write this post on photography etiquette at weddings? I write this post coz I have had it up to here with paparazzi’s at weddings. Who am I talking about? I am talking about you….yah, you!

You might be a paparazzi if :

• You block the hired photographers shot with your disposable camera.
• You consider yourself the unofficial wedding photographer.
• You know what kind of perfume or sweat the hired photographer is wearing.
• The hired photographer knows what kind of perfume or sweat you are wearing.
• You are everywhere on the wedding video taking pictures of everything that moves.

I say all this knowing that it is easy to point out specks in peoples eyes while having a whole tree trunk in ones eye. So that said, let me be honest with you, I am a recovering wedding paparazzi. I also have something I really need to get off my chest.

OK, lets have a man to _______ (fill in the blank) conversation on wedding manners…or mananasi (Some Kenyans will get that joke…but moving on).

The wedding is about the bride and sometimes about the groom. Many times the bride has an ideal vision for the wedding so that is why she and her groom usually put a lot of time and money to hire professionals to take pictures and video record their wedding for posterity.

Whether we like it or not, there is a really good reason why they did not hire you and I to take pictures of the wedding. Therefore, it is important to minimize your picture taking of their wedding and stay out of the hired photographers way as much as possible.

I know that digital cameras have turned everybody into photographers, which is awesome. Just don’t be a menace to wedding photographers and videographers coz thats just being inconsiderate and annoying. Having said that, I hope you liked the paparazzi pictures I took of this wedding I went to this weekend.
