Benazir Bhutto, 1953-2007

Former prime minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated today in Pakistan! News of her murder was all over CNN and FOX. Of course they were quick to claim that it was the handiwork of either Al qaeda, Taliban or Osama. I for one suspect that the current president of Pakistan, president Musharaf had a part to play in doing Bhutto in.

I didn’t particularly adore Bhutto but I did admire her tenacity and frankly, her testicular fortitude to go back to Pakistan knowing very well that it might cost her, her life. Such is the life of a democratic leader in a “democratic” country.

The world will surely be different without her. She was one of the few women who managed to rise above all the male chauvinism and sexism that pervades politics and boldly speak out for injustice.

I’m not saying she was a saint. She definitely wasn’t a saint.

All I am saying is that it is an act of cowardice and barbarism to opt to kill someone instead of settling ones differences through talking and debating about it.

Well, I pride myself for being a optimist. So naturally, I believe that Bhutto’s death was NOT in vain. May Benazir Bhutto rest in peace.
